Auto Recyclers ToolBox® 31 We need to take control of our des- tiny. We all need to come together to shape the future for our indus- try. We need to tell our story to the world with a unified voice. We need them to know who we are and what we really do. We need to support and participate in our National and State Associations. We can no longer afford not to. Support your State and National Associations! Support ARA! For whatever reason, the OEM’s target us as their biggest threat. In reality, we have the smallest market share. As I have said before, we are not their com- petitor. We should be looked upon for what and who we really are. To the OEM’s, we are their viable partners. We are not their competi- tion. We are not Junkyards. We recycle OEM parts. We are a needed, relevant industry. We are committed to our employees, their families, our customers, our com- munity, and the environment. We work hard and deserve merit and respect. good we do, we have unfair com- petition, unfair information denial by the OEM’s, and the persistent negative perception of our indus- try. Problem and solution The problem as I see it is, we are fragmented and not organized as an industry. The solution is to unite and come together. The ques- tion before all of us is: do we want to be part of the problem or the solution? 9113 Church St. Manassas, VA 20110-5456 www.a-r-a.org Help us continue to put pressure on the automakers by contributing to the 2018 Automotive Recyclers Defense Fund. ARA has met several times with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to discuss concerns that auto manufacturers have become more aggressive in their attacks -- attacks that are both biased and based on weak or no apparent scientific research. In April, the FTC sent a warning letter to Hyundai, but more action is needed! Targeted outreach to government regulators and legislators; Recently state legislatures in Rhode Island and Hawaii considered legislation that would sanction biased OEM repair standards and recommendations against the use of recycled parts. ARA came out strongly in opposition to this legislation but by all accounts, it seems that manufacturers are ramping up efforts to force recycled parts out of the market. An awareness campaign to promote the reutilization of OEM parts and respond to attacks from the automakers; Participation in automotive and consumer-oriented events to educate the public about the robust quality assurance standards employed by automotive recyclers, and the economic and environmental value of recycled parts.
